For a new build by all means the .401 GNR and an extra cylinder in whatever floats your boat. Gary made me one with a .40 S&W cylinder. Then I had him make me a .38-40 on an OM Ruger chassis.

While I have done it, I think loading the .38-40 to magnum pressures is a little irresponsible. What if one got away, you died, and left a box, etc. Someone shot one in an old SAA or New Service, 1873 etc. It would be a grenade! Gary's .401 GNR on the .44 Magnum case solves that.

I love old guns and enjoy making obsolete cartridges to go with them.
