I had a .457 wild west magnum in the short guide gun style and it was flat brutal to shoot so I sent it down the road, its just a hopped up .45-70 but damn it kicked way worse than my .458 Winchester. I don't know but there's something about those straight gripped lever guns that seem worse than the pistol gripped ones.
