GI Brass.com They sell military brass, bullets and powder. The powder was over-runs in 8 lb kegs. At the time I bought large quantities of Winchester 296 which they said was the powder loaded in 5.56 ammo for the military. We bought 100 lbs of the powder at the time and weighed it out and transferred it to one lb jugs. It is a very fine ball powder that flows out of the hopper like grains of salt. I had already been using 296 for years before I knew it was the military's choice in powder. I used it in loading for my Auto Mags as it is a fine powder that is very clean. I loaded for several calibers and several bullet weights. I am sure some of the guys on here can give you an idea on the best powder weight for 55 to 72 grain bullets. Sean Harper loaded for all the GNR calibers and I am sure he can pass along a good load for the 5.56. I trust Sean as he knows more about loading than anyone I know of.
