It's leaching out something to grow. I cannot see damage to any brass. I remember seeing it on nickel cases too but they take much longer to tarnish.

I'm going to experiment with saddle soap to treat the leather only. This should insulate the brass from the raw leather. I don't want anything on the brass to grab the chamber walls or make it slicker and set back.
