445 SuperMag Multi Purpose Loads...

Anyone who's ever dealt with this fine cartridge quickly learns there is limited data for it. Very limited...

After receiving the Reeder 445 SuperMag, I decided to explore this a bit. Results were gratifying to say the least.

Most of the time full power loads are not needed. With published data limited to H11p/296, 4227, 680 and 1680, I felt more needed to be done.

Case capacity of the 445 SuperMag is .5-1 grain more than the 454 Casull. I'm certainly not suggesting data is interchangeable or that anyone should assume it is. But, at least I had a reference.

In the end, I could vary my loads for the power levels needed without firing shorter cartridges such as the 44 Magnum in my gun.

Unique provided 1200 fps with 240-250 grn cast to mimic the heavy 44 Special loads that have been and remain infinitely useful.

HS-6 and Longshot upped the ante to 1400 fps with the same bullet weights. Accuracy was superb and ballistics were consistent. This matches 44 Magnum power with less noise and fuss.

Haven't tried it, but others report Trail Boss duplicates original 44 Special and 44-40 ballistics when loaded in the 1.6" case.

I won't speculate on top end loads. My gun is built on the mid length DMAX Frame. Basically a BFR Sized Frame with a 2.25" COAL cylinder. Gary's 5 Shot cylinder is extremely strong and that's where I'll stop.

So, with the right loads, this gun can duplicate loads ranging from early Colt 44 Special to modern 454 Casull power and shoot them all into Quarter size groups.

Can figure how anybody could ask for more.

I know this is of limited interest, but thought I'd post it...

I just got a Contender 445 SM from RSim. I need to find some brass, bullets and load data

Keep the pressure at or below 44 Magnum levels...

For the Contender. I hate to see those frames stretched and ruined.

The components are easy and loading a breeze. I also have a Reeder Contender Barrel in 445 SuperMag.

I also have a rare factory Encore 24" Rifle Barrel from TC. It was found in the plant when it was shut down following the sale to S&W. A friend knew I liked the caliber and sent it to me still in the factory package.

if you need brass, we have plenty

it's what I've used with great success with my G2 16.25" carbine. Have loads from 180g XTPs-320gr LBTs. Favorite powder is 4227.

I'm a 414 fanatic. .410 is the best caliber ever created Of course I'm just a hunter shooter. Everything has a point of diminishing returns. The .41 caliber is perfect for anything in the lower 48.

I have the Hornady Manuals, but THANKS for reminding me..

That i can use that Flextip Bullet in this long cylinder revolver. Those things are great on thin skinned game such as whitetail.

including the 7mm SM, 305 SM, 357 SM, 375 SM,414 SM, 445 SM, 505 SM, and 610 SM. All were the original 1.610 in length. Of the 9 Super Mag cartridges developed, only the 7mm Super Mag, 357 Super mag, 375 Super mag, 414 Super Mag, And the 445 Super Mag ever saw light of day.I was lucky enough to get the first 2 375 Super Mag revolvers released and used the up at Tellico Junction on a monster White Fallow deer. Good friend Jack Pitcher used the second gun and also shot a white fallow deer. Both deer were still in velvet.

there is a good chance they will. Right now custom 1911s are

flooding the market just like AR-15s did a while back. The folks at CZ are smart. I imagine they will realize that getting back into the Super Mags would be a good idea as nobody else is making a double action Super Mag. Our single action Super Mags sell as quick as we can get them built whereas the 1911s are beginning to slow up.
