Hello to all:

I was thinking about a rimfire or small bore centerfire revolver for small game hunting. A while back I sold a Ruger Single six convertable 22/ 22 magnum with the 9 1/2 inch barrel. I kind of wished I had the gun but that is in the past.

I have contemplated a Single six Hunter for a nice all around woods and hunting gun.

So. For those who hunt small game what do you use and what would you choose? Thank you for your reply.

For rimfires, those are good choices. The 250 GNR is my...

Choice on the centerfire rounds. Others include the 218 Bee, 25-20, 32 Magnum, 327 Federal, 32-20 and the list goes on.

The Reeder Trail Guns have no peers in the small game realm.

Huey is the go to guy for the small callibers

My favorite for long range jackrabbits is the 300GNR. A 30 carbine with a 300 GNR cylinder lets you shoot both of those and a slightly shortened 32-20..... if you are a handloader. If not a handloader, the 22 WMR is good.
9mm 1911’s are really good and fun too.

I like the 22 K-Hornet in a revolver

You can do crazy things with a .327

Load rifle bullets in .32 ACP cases, shoot .32 Long Wadcutters at 600 fps, .310" round balls dipped in Alox at 500-600 fps and a pinch of Bullseye or Unique. Or maybe scorch out a 135 gr. small deer killer, in a pinch. My suggestion.

Gary has some neat trademark rounds, .240 Banshee, .255, .250 GNR etc. They can be made to back out or stick in a wheelgun though, if you try. I have wondered what it would be like, as I fireform the Banshees, what would one in that configuration do? Basically a very slow tapered .22 Hornet opened to .243 and .257". They may exist someplace already but for a wheelgun they might afford performance and not as many problems to the casual loader.

if you want an "all around" gun try the 321 GNR

It uses the readily available 357 Magnum brass and will beat the 327 Federal by 800 fps. Good for "all around" woods walking.

As much as I love the .300 GNR the .321 makes

perfect sense. For the revolver, the performance difference is not worth truly considering. The simple case forming is a great advantage and smaller case diameter should afford more favorable traits in use.

My .300 has an auxiliary cylinder in .327 that really affords flexibility but I'd love to play with the .321. I'm only worried I'd neglect the .300 once I got into the fun. Sort of like the .32-20, such fun and historic, but the .327 cylinder renders it a bit frivolous for the cost.
