I read the forum a lot but do not post much but I just picked up a Contender that is used for $325 but the barrel is 222 Remington. Any ideas and a suitable caliber for North America I reload some Thanks[image]

Denny, were you wanting to rechamber the 222 barrel or need a new barrel. There are several calibers you can go to on the 222 barrel. Or several calibers you could go to if you want a new barrel. All according to what game you plan on hunting.

The octagon .222 Rem. barrel is a little collectable

I'd sell it (barrel) post haste, it's a good caliber for the handgun actually (took out JFK some say). I'd put the funds toward a Reeder 13" with brake barrel in 7mm GNR. A pocket 7x75 that can take anything and shoot 7X30 Waters for fun. If you like .25 cal. I'd go with the .256 Falcon (same as 7 GNR but in .257 cal.). My son ended up with a .30 GNR that maximizes the .30-30 case as far as you can go, but can still shoot Wal-mart .30-30 ammo.

Lots of other options. I don't want to go without my 7mm GNR though.

I WOULD NOT CONVERT THAT BARREL--

KEEP IT OR SELL IT TO SOMEONE WHO WILL APPRECIATE IT.

Well I went to the local gun show today in search of a 357 or 44 barrel. Not much luck and I spotted a young fellow (I am 65) with a TC. I asked him what he had. Encore 44 magnum with a 14" barrel. What you asking ? What you want to offer I said $300.00 has some rust spots but not deep. Yep I brought so now what to do. I plan to keep the 222 Remington and have work on this 44 barrel and refinish

run it out to 429 GNR. Great cartridge
