Since the 1680 eliminated the primer flow in the 256 Winchester, I decided to try it in the 25-20. It had previously suffered from the same issue with faster burning powders.

Sure enough the problem vanished. Even with full throttle loads and heavy bullets.

Loads were snappy and very accurate. The fast 1 in 10" twist was very forgiving. No leading and cleaned with one patch.

Never too old to learn. Have plenty of 1680, so the bulk ammo is coming.

At HHC Randy Barnett and I slipped off with the 255 Banshee

prototype Gary had there. We just had to put a through rounds through it. Bill Firman ended up with the gun, shot a nice fancy Turkey with it too. It was loaded with cast bullets and AA1680 when a prototype round.

I have a hard time imagining better small game guns...

You can take your pick from the 250 GNR, 255 Banshee, 25-20, 251 Falcon or 256 Winchester.

I like each for different reasons. The 25-20 is particularly well suited to heavy cast bullets with it's long neck.

But, no bad choices in the bunch.

An interesting note is fireformed 255 Banshee cases are exactly the same length as 25-20. So, it would be very much at home in a Trail Gun.

Yes, easy with the typical mods, minimum barrel stub

so you can install a longer cylinder. My old K-frame Kay-Chuck had a 1.6" cylinder. I ended up about halving the long neck of a .22 K-hornet to make it fit and look right. The actual window on a Single-six is longer, if you are re-doing the barrel anyway you are wide open.

I have a 8-shot on a BH but to do it again I'd at largest go to a .357 OM chassis. The Single-size really sound neat. I did some work with the .240 Banshee in the single shot and was surprised it out performed the .25 cal. a bit as far as flat trajectory. It would be interesting too.

Maybe a 6mm-32 Magnum could be done....

Would have the same powder capacity, but be much more forgiving of bullet selection and nose length.

already have it drawn up on a 327 case.

When it gets available.

I picked up a rare .244 70 gr. bullet mould at HHC

That I plan to wring out the .240 Banshee some and the .240 Raptor too, both are peaches. I also have a .244 Ackley rifle that I want to try out now I've smoothed up the bore some.

Finding a .244 sizer die, nose punch, and correct gas checks.... another quest.

A .244, that would be interesting. The case is strong.

in popularity these days. Actually this is normal as we get closer to our varmint seasons. They would be good for bigger critters too. Al Goerg took 2 bears in one day with the 22 K-Hornet which is less power than the 240 Banshee or the 255 Banshee. So they would be fine for larger animals with proper bullet placement.

This past fall we built several of the 7mm Raptors and 30 Raptors, both of which are amazingly powerful, at least enough for just about any whitetail or mule deer. My favorite has been the 257 Raptor with the 7mm Raptor a close second. I put down a Watusi cow that was giving the folks at Wilderness a bit of trouble a while back with a hot loaded 257 Raptor. After a bit she managed to struggle to her feet and rather than having a wounded critter running around I put her down for keeps with the 429 GNR. In the skinning shed I saw that I had pulled the bullet a bit to one side, just stunning her. Again with proper bullet placement she wouldn't have got back up.

I use 1680 in the 250GNR in my Hellcat

The little gun likes it the best. More fps and no cilnder lock up than using 296. Use 296 in the 250GNR G2.
