We just got this in and wanted to give you first shot at it. This is an early Bearcat, from early 1958. First, here are some of the pictures..

Now here is the unusual part of this. My book says the very early Bearcats had serial numbers starting with the letter F and starting at number F100. This gun is F172..

Another thing I find that tells me it is one of the very first Bearcats made is that there is no caliber markings on it at all. It is a 22 LR but that caliber is not on the gun anywhere. So we have a very early and unusual Bearcat. The book shows $500 to $550 as the value of the gun in it's current excellent condition. The gun is very tight with no slop. Looks like it has been carried a lot but shot a little. I have it at a sale price of $325 plus shipping.

ILL TAKE IT!

I saw the serial number. Then when I looked it up, I figured someone on here would want that gun at a decent price.

Handsome little pistol, didn't know they made 'em in '58

In 1958 and 1959 Ruger messed with the competition by futzing with serial numbers, creating the "alpha cats" by numbering guns with 1-999 with alpha characters from A thru Y excluding "O". The gun here was likely made in late 1958.

I don't think they put the caliber on the guns until the "supers" came out in 1971 with the 91-prefix numbers.

Nice score at a good price.

Great deal? Will talk to Gary about it one day?
