In Gary's reloading manual it mentions the Cast Performance 250 or 255 gr WFN bullets. I picked up some 240gr WFN-GC bullets from Montana Bullet works but it seems that I am having to seat the bullet way past the crimp groove to get it to fit into the cylinder so that it moves freely. The bullets I am using sized to .411 dia and the Cast Performance are sized to .410 dia. The cases go into the cylinder with no issues prior to seating the bullet. The nose to crimp is .365 on the Montana bullets and .275 on the Cast Performance. My question is should I just seat the bullets past the groove or find another bullet? Or maybe try a WLN bullet as there seems to still be plenty of room in the cylinder?

the original .410 bullets at CPB were different than

today. Kelly Brost designed a great bullet for the various 41s. It had a short nose and even though it was labeled a WFN it was pretty much an LFN. I told Kelly what I needed and he hit on it perfect. Unfortunately when Kelly sold out the new owner dropped that bullet and replaced it with a bullet that is nowhere near as good. The same goes for Montana Bullet Works. Their old 41 bullet was a great bullet. Again the company was sold and new designs came about that weren't as good. That is that extreme long nose 220 grain bullet they currently make. I would suggest you search around and try to find a different bullet with a shorter tapered nose and somewhere in the 250 grain area. If you find one, let us know on here.

Thanks for the info Gary

Both one shot kills. After that one, Dave Manson borrowed my 410 GNR revolver and killed another bull out of the herd.

Try Oregon Trail 265gr. .411 bullet. Works great in my .410GNR and 41 GNR#2. Think it would be too much bullet for 41 Mag. Don't have or know about .41GNR.

Thats what I use in my 410GNR also..great bullet

in a revolver? I know no problem in a TC but it looks like it would pose some problems in a cylinder.

The 410 GNR is a 41mag super Blackhawk conversion. The 41 GNR #2 is a 357 Max conversion. Close on both.

Gary, what do you consider the max

Cartridge over all length for the 41 #2

the ratchet on the rear of the cylinder and the boss on the front of the cylinder is 2.20". Of course the rim is not inside the cylinder so the actual space you have to work with counting the .055 for the rim is 2.255".

has a 250 LFNGC listed. I don't know how it compares to Montana Bullet's design and I don't have any experience with it.

His bullet design is similiar to the SSK

I had to look him up and it looks like Graf sells his bullets. Some of his designs are similar to the SSK design with the short nose.

I like the SSK design by JD Jones for heavy bullets. I have his moulds for 357, 41 and 44. It is a bore ride bullet and all the ones I tested were very accurate.

The first mould I bought from him was a mistake and had the 225 and 275 grain in the same mould instead of a two cavity 275 so I just kept it.

It is too bad Peter Pi stopped making the moulds. Maybe it was due to the competition with selling his bullets??

Gary, in this one case then, you would

say the WFN is not a problem as in most cases. I think I have a couple of boxes of each when I first got the 410 GNR Kelly was still running the company. I think the crimp grove causes the 255 to have a longer overall length.

the CPB 255 grain .410 bullet is an excellent bullet

That African Savannah Buffalo I shot was a one shot kill with it out of a revolver. Broke the shoulder, went on thru and embedded in the off shoulder. He ran maybe 30 yards and fell over.

I have a box of 250 grain LFNGC bullets from both companies. If you wish to try some I'll gladly send you some as a sampler. I haven't found a load my revolver likes yet but I've only tried a couple. Let me know if you want some to try.

DinCA, Thanks I will take you up on that
