Just about all covered then ...

The .440 can be more than you figure

domestically it can shoot any .44 handgun bullet. I commissioned some Hawk 325 gr. Spire point bullets and ran them at 2300 fps. I wanted to try some 400 gr. and got some up to 1900 fps but it smarted! It had more but I was all flinchy.

I see it as the same class as the .416 GNR, a real butch hammer. The .350 has always intrigued me, has to be good, up to 250 gr. bullets are pretty easy to get.

Pretend the .350 GNR was the handgun equivalent to the .35 Whelen and the .440 GNR was a .425 Westley Richards (.435"). That pretty much sums it up.

As a young one here, 53, is it crazy to think

about rechambering a 44M to 440GNR or getting a 350 GNR?

Gary, do you have carbine length barrels available in .35 caliber, 14”+2” or 15”+2”?

Not really, I'm 55. Trail Boss is your friend.

My .476 GNR gets mostly a diet of Trail Boss and 325 gr. cast bullets. The 6 lb. Encore pistol puts out .480 Ruger performance and recoil is not an issue. The .440 can do the same with any .44 bullet. The .416 is hampered by not having many options for "cheap" bullets to shoot. I do have a good mould for it myself though. Took some looking and luck to find.

With both rounds I think you really need a brake. The .350 GNR might get by w/o but you'd wish you had one eventually.

Thanks Scotty. I have 475 GNR dies and s bunch of 45-70

brass. What would you recommend for that, 13+2?

Going big bore, is recoil managed easier in a pistol or rifle/carbine? I seem to have target acquisition problems with the long eye relief pistol scopes and the finicky focal range. I had a brand that was clear as day but the eye position to keep in focus was annoying. That is why I ask more about the pistol/carbine length barrels so I can scope.

In TC pistols, I’m currently trying the C-More Slideride/Railway red dots for fast target acquisition and a 2 MOA dot. I like the big sight picture it allows without hugging the barrel (my preference). I wish C-More made that model like the Vortex Strikefire - red and green dots. That would be nice.

Hah, I mention recoil management after ordering a second cylinder for my 475L Flattop Hunter in 470 GNR. Gary marketed it as s ball buster. Hopefully I don’t park the front sight in my forehead.

I think my 476 is a 14+2", go both ways.

With such a big hole bore the weight is not that much difference. I have a Choate side folder and their M4 style pistol grip stock. I prefer the latter though. With a 2X I can use the scope for pistol or carbine.

14+2 sounds a good compromise. Need Gary

to weigh in on barrel blank availability. I could just send in an order form and wait my turn. I’ll need to get brass and dies for the 350.

plenty of .475 blanks but real low on .358 blanks. Have

300 gr bullets, and it makes a really fun gun. With the muzzle break my grandson had no trouble shooting it when he was 12. I even take it rabbit and coyote hunting sometimes. With the hard bullets it just makes a nice 1/2” hole through them, unless you hit a large bone then sometimes it looks like they stood on a land mine.
