I have an Encore Pro Hunter with a thumb hole buttstock and forend but no barrel. I would like a low recoiling round for long range (to me) shooting up to 300 yards. Want it for varmints and Alabama Whitetail deer. Have been considering the 256 Falcon and 257 GNR. Thinking app 18" barrel? Just wondering what you might recommend in GNR caliber ad barrel length. I like to benchrest shoot targets too.

Thanks

PS hope your Dr. Appointment

by low recoil. How low? The 280 GNR would be a great long range caliber as would the 310 GNR.

Recoil is so subjective, for me low

Is equivalent to 25-06 out of a Weatherby Vanguard

then the 2 I mentioned would be the ones I recommend

whichever caliber you like best, 308 or 7mm. I can make it a heavy taper barrel with a brake and it will be a pussycat.

.280GNR, would the sale below apply on the In Stock list?

with a brake is an amazing device as to how light the recoil is. A 5 lb. Contender with a 14" barrel and brake recoils like a .223. I'm not joking! The .280 GNR on the 6 lb. Encore and a slightly longer barrel would be the tits. I highly recommend a 14+2" braked barrel, the tapered one GNR suggested. It may cost a little more but you can use it as carbine OR handgun and it really works in both capacities! My son has a 7mm-08 like that and seriously recoil is not any type of consideration, I'd let a 6 yr. old shoot it.

Now it will blow all the stuff off the shooting benches on both sides of you at the range! But it bothers the shooter much less, that blast. LOL
