What about a .44 Special full Wadcutter as a defense load? I've read a few stories about cops using them. Don't know if it's true or not. I bought a couple of boxes of the Underwood Wadcutter rounds. I've been thinking about carrying them in my Charter Arms Boomer.

My wife carried 148 gr. WC for years in .38 Spec.

They have a maximum meplat for sure. Plus you can stack them in the same hole at 25 yds.

I've read they really hit hard and cut through stuff.

A friend of mine killed a nice 8-pt. Whitetail

With his Colt Trooper 6” .357. He was headed out on a Friday night and there it was 50 yds. away in the pasture. One handed, DRT neck shot. Recovered the 148 gr. BBWC I had loaded to about 1000 fps, it mushroomed very slightly after penetrating the spine and vertebrae, stopping under the off side hide. There you go, and that was a .38 Special load!

Sounds like it did a perfect job! I've always been leary of the .45 ACP hollow points because of the low velocity so I kinda thought the .44 Special might be in the same boat but the .44s usually run a little faster so maybe the big hollow points work better in the .44 vs. the ACP.

I've taken medium game with the .44 240 SWC

I carry this quite a bit and have taken a couple good sized critters with it. Mainly because it's what I had on me. The .44 and solid bullets will get the job done.

I have a CCW holster rig custom made from Simply Rugged and also carry it in the Reeder's belt slide.

It's funny with all these high tech wonder bullets of today I'm talking about carrying a .44 Special with Wadcutter's! That is one good looking .44 you have there! Really like it.

While it fits in a back pocket it has full custom

Reeder features. On an OM .357 chassis, new heavy 4" barrel fitted with special crown and Maxi-throat. It's actually one of the most accurate revolvers I own.

Uncle Bear gave me that special hat.

I sure like it, I bought one the Rugers when they came out with the .44 Special Blackhawks several years ago. I think I would like the shorter barrel. I picked up a S&W 696 here a little while ago and it has the 3" barrel.

Gary made a bunch with steel frames

As a custom touch. I specified an alloy grip frame to keep weight down. I was going to keep a alloy ejector housing too but the polished stainless only adds an ounce. I think it weighs about 34-36 oz. unloaded, about the same as a single-six. The flat top treatment and scalloping offset the ounce or two of the heavier barrel. You’d just have to handle it to see what a real treat it is. The 4” length was done to comply with minimum specs for hunting. Everyone should have an ElDiablo in their Reeder collection.
