A buddy of mine won a 6.5)300 weatherby at the NRA banquet, sounds like a screaming round. Any of y'all know much about it. I had a 257 weatherby that I loved, but had to sale regretfully.

either up or down into some new 6.5 caliber. There were a couple of the rifles at the NRA dinner that Noodle and I worked a couple of weeks ago but there isn't any ammo to be found. So pretty much useless for this season's hunting. Several of the new calibers are having that same problem, no ammo.

My buddy is an old cowboy , not a long range freak he is just wanting a little info about it . wants me to get a scope on it for him and sight it in , just so it's usable. He has seen all the hype of the 6.5 crap,he hunts south Texas and trying to use it for hunting

cartridge. tell him to sell it to a 6.5 freak and buy a good 308. Ammo for the 6.5-300 is going to be extremely hard to find and very expensive.

at least a year and what will a 6.5 do that a 308 won't do better? Plus 308 ammo is easily found at most gun shops. Or 30-06, or any other normal round.

practical. Shoot for the price of one of those Weatherby Mk 5's you could get 2 rifles 308, 3006, 270, etc etc etc.

As for 6.5x55 ammo some is available online for now, 308, 270,etc are not in good supply in my area.

"want" the rifle. He won it at an NRA thing, so he is finding out there is no ammo available. But like GR said the more common stuff is available like 308 and such. I was in GR's shop recently and I think he had 3 or 4 brands of 308 plus most of the other common ammo, but no 6.5 by 300, whatever that is. And if it is a Weatherby cartridge it is going to be $80 a box, maybe more. It just doesn't add up.

Or trade it myself for the ammo reason, 308, 7mm 08, etc is a heck of alot cheaper than any Weatherby ammo for certain! The only 6.5 I would consider is the old 6.5 Swede or Grendel, not a Kool aid drinker just threw the 6.5 Swede in for nostalgia, it's old and still works!
