It is smiling at my attempt from .405 to 310GNR! Quick learning experience. Size to 378 then go to 310!
Curious... is that a .450 Marlin w/the belted case?

.375 and getting hung up before forming the mouth & neck at .308. Try necking down a bit more, .358, before going to .308. I would also anneal the cases prior to necking smaller than .375. And don’t spare the lube.
I went from 405 to 310 on the one shown.

Went from 405 to 378 and then to 310 on the next 20. Not a problem with any.
you may have to go down even more than 378

to get perfect sized brass. Normally I go from 378 to the 350 GNR then 338 GNR and then 310. That way I don't lose any 405 brass.
I’ll do that Gary, thanks!

the fuggup and turn it in the 8mm Kropotchnick or the 40 Dowanger.
Looking like it might make a dandy all brass .410 shotshell!

Did you know the .410 shotshell (67 gauge actually) derived from the .44/40 Win. shot loadings? I think Marbles had one of the first dedicated smoothbore .44/40 guns that morphed into the .410 2-1/2" shotshell. Maybe one of those "bicycle" guns? That itself is telling as to the dating, I guess riding a bicycle was a "thing" in the 1890's? Also, for a cottage industry development for meeting a need I must assume there were lots, and lots, of feral dogs? lol
Or blow out 303 British for 405 short?
