Kimber questions

Does any one have experience with the Kimber stainless target II in 10mm I’m looking for something to use for hunting/ woods carry etc. I realize that rock island and others may be a better value for the money. It seems to be the only long slide 10 available right now. From my understanding they are series 80. I’m not sure that is a big problem some of the reviews I read have said that certain ammo with a wide flat meplat or large, open hollow point give feeding trouble. I’m sure it could benefit from a feed ramp polish and action job. The cheapest I have found one is $1000 and it appears to be the only long slide out there right now. Thanks in advance misfits I always enjoy the discussion here.

I have the Kimber long slide 10mm
I am very happy with it.
It is a nice looking pistol, too.
I bought it last year from some distributor
on-line for $801.00

Hey JT is 10mm factory watered down?

That's Glock 23 .40 S&W performance, excepting the 175 gr. Silvertip. My cast .40 loads easy hit 1000 fps and more with published data. I can't remember me checking a factory 180-200 gr. .40 load that was not running 950-1000 fps. (Try that out of a 16 oz. Kahr!)

Some of my personal 10mm loads (Longshot and AA#7) are 300 fps beyond those you show with shorter barrels? Did domestic ammo makers back off some to keep from beating 1911 platforms to death? I know the FBI and Colt Delta's had a rough time with the 200 gr. at 1200.

As far as long slides are concerned they are neat but having a barrel sticking out an inch or so beyond the slide garners the exact same terminal performance. FWIW. If you want the balance and sighting plane I certainly understand.

YES I THINK ORIGINAL 200 @ 1200

IS TOO HEAVY FOR A 1911

I've done most of mine from a very ugly Glock 20

with the barrel sticking out over 1" past the end of the slide. But it does perform wonderfully. Rubbery frame flexes all over and less, more robust, parts to bash around.

I'm going to take it easier on my AMT Javelina. Maybe the 180 a bit close to 1200 fps for a hot load. Factory PPU 180 gr. JHP was only about 1050 fps.

wasn't that what Cooper wanted in the original 10mm?

a 200 at 1200? I may be thinking of another of his preferred loads in another caliber.

I think that's what he touted back in the BrenTen days.

The 1911 is lots more complicated in mechanical timing that I ever realized. Built totally around the .45 ACP, and I can see it's adaptation over to .38 Super way back. The forces imparted the the gun were not that much more as to the speed of slide travel and hammering the gun.

They have done some amazing things with it but with much knowledge applied.

I didn't understand a bit what you just typed. You were talking about the 10mm Bren Ten and then shifted to the 1911 but threw in some timing stuff to confuse us.

the Bren was, to me, a great gun with a super smooth trigger

but they were fragile compared to the old war horse 1911.,Kase and I collected them for a good while and then the prices went thru the roof and they ended up in some other guy's collection. Old fuzzy pictures from the late 80s.

I saw was Norma and from what I was reading it was damaging the Colt Delta Elite in as little as 100 rounds. Even with a rubber buffer in it. I heard they were pretty much forced to drop the power of the load to keep the FBI happy and to keep from damaging the guns. But I don't have the original 10mm specs from Norma so this is all conjecture and second hand knowledge to me.

Nighthawks are very very nice

I have a kimber Stainless Target long slide and have been very happy with it. It is a series 70 action instead of the II (schwartz safety) action.

we have been building longslide 10mms for 20 years now

Looking back I noticed that some of these 10mm guns were not longslides but were in my 10mm Longslide file, so ignore them. And if you need more I have at least 25 to 30 more 10mm longslide pistols we have done. [image]

In 2000 Kase was written up in Combat Handguns as one of the 2 gunsmiths responsible for bringing the 10mm back to life in his Ultimate 10.

I have the banshee in the picture. And it is fantastic eats everything you feed it. I have a RIA 10MM long slide double stack and an EAA witness hunter long double they both work well. I like the witness in my hand. They will both end up at Gary's shop for a PPP and some engraving and deluxe black chromex. By the time I do all that I could have gotten two more long slides from Gary. For about the same price and have better guns. His 1911s are all custom from the frame up now. I also have an older 5" on a Dan Wesson frame. Also a great shooter. Plus a few more older ones from Gary and Kase. Quit shopping and give them a call and get your order in. It's worth the wait!
