Reeder Custom Guns - Informal poll...what's your favorite caliber for deer?

Its summer on the gulf coast and hotter than you know where.....

So its easy to think of cooler days ahead.....and
I'm thinking of the upcoming deer season. So what's your favorite caliber now a days?? (limited to rifles for now) For me, .270 (.277) nowadays.

In the past I have used .22(224), 243, 257, 270, 284(7mm), and .308 --- I'm talking rifles here, not handguns. Interested to hear yours.

My daughter uses my old 270 77 Ruger, my son uses a 308 rem 788, I use 308 encore pistol and 300 win mag .all shoot hand loads.

out. If I am in large deer country I use my 410 GNR revolver and as our deer here are Coues Deer, maybe 80 lbs, I use my 356 GNR revolver.

When not in the brush I like the .270 Winchester. This question is hard on many levels. I use my Marlin 336 in 35 Remington quite a bit too.

.350 Legend AR I got squared away. I'd fancy those as far as rifles. Gary and a buddy made up a nice 7mm-08 16" braked Encore carbine barrel for my kids. It's so sweet I'd love to try it out too. I see the 7mm-08 as a modernized 7mm Mauser, only more powerful. It's a fantastic deer cartridge and more.

I have video and watched Doug shoot stem to stern through some smaller TX Whitetails at the Y-O culling shoot. The bullets knocked them over and kept on going. That was through a 15" TC Custom Shop Encore barrel. I was impressed with the penetration. I thought it might be better than a .30-30 and 150 gr. It's a fine little round that needs a second look.

other than a 22 for small game.i started out hunting deer in ill.you could only use a bow or shotgun. got a few with 12ga slugs .after i moved to Wa.state i started useing 41mag and 44 mag handguns for deer

But,.. I really need to bloody the 475 LB. I'll be shooting 480s though.

I'm not oppose to anything really. In a rifle honestly,.. i really like 22-250 and a good soft point bullet. I like 30-30,.. and 30-06 and 308 will never let you down.

It is based solely on great memories, my Marlin 336 T 30-30 (170 Gr) or Dad's old 30-06 (150 Gr) Model 70.
