Star Model S Gunsmith Question

I have an Iver Johnson "Pony" that I believe is actually a Star Model S in .380.

If you rack the slide with the muzzle pointed upward, the slide binds up on the top breach face of the barrel & prevents the slide from traveling forward. If the muzzle is pointed downward, the barrel angle has enough clearance for the slide to return to battery.

The interior hood of the slide at the front of the ejection port has a raised rib that the breach face is hitting. I'm hesitant to change that rib as I suspect it holds the rear of the barrel in alignment.

Anyone experienced this situation before? If so, how did you resolve the problem?

Thank you.

A good man really needs to see. I'd not screw

with the hood as it also is a source of proper headspace dimension as well as locking the barrel and lugs. Find a man to really check it out.

Exactly. Critical Dimensions.

I know just enough, to begin to understand, how much I don't know. You know?
