We lived in an old country house when my son was about 5. Had a mouse problem trap most of them shot the rest of the 22 birdshot. He went to kindergarten the next day told the teacher dad was shooting rats in the house last night with a pistol. Luckily I went to school with her and she knew me it didn't call child protective service

My nephew sent me this.

He said it reminded him of my Dad.
Dad used to shoot rats in the basement with his Remington 1858 .44 cap n ball pistol, loaded with a full change of black powder and just a greased wad over the powder. It would roll the rats over and sometimes they would run off, but without any hair left on their body!

WITH THE BULLET, PAPER TISSUE HOLDING IN POWDER. CHEESE ON END OF BARREL. STRING ON TRIGGER. BOOM! BLEW THE MOUSE INTO THE WALL. WALL HAD TO BE REFINISHED.

I remember him telling the story.

He said the bones were embedded in the wall.
