I got a Marlin .375 Winchester in a trade last week. I had been looking for one for some time but the prices were always too high. This one is in pretty good external shape and the bore and action are very good. I have had a TC pistol barrel in this caliber for many years so I am familiar with the cartridge. Plenty of brass and bullets on hand and I have been casting a 250 grain bullet for it. I believe I will enjoy this one.

A rare one indeed. Nice grab.

But I just bought blueing tanks and burners and some chemicals or I would want it. That 35 Remington was more than I could resist. LOL But I have one of those.

Yeah it's a better .38-55 if you will.

The old guns of two centuries ago had bore sizes all over. The spec on .38-55 is .379" for a cast bullet. It will still shoot fine through a .375 IF it will chamber. Starline even makes thin wall .38-55 to compensate for needing a bigger bullet.

The .375 Win. simplifies this with a nominal uniform .375" bore and a .376 or .377" bullet will shoot just fine. I took one to AK in a FA 2008 once. The 230 gr. Hornady JSP ran right at 1970 fps from the 15" barrel.

I ended up with Puffy's old Winchester 94 XTR Big-bore .375. It is one of my most prized firearms, a family heirloom now since Roman met Puffy and were instant friends.

I took the LEE 255 gr. FP mould and cut the fat bottom off it (the top of the mould) and use the lube groove for a gas check shank. It makes a nice 215 gr. FPGC and is extra speedy. Really great for the .375 GNR handgun.

Did you say a "Better" 38-55?...

You had to know I would post on that statement.

Some years back I added a Marlin 336CB Oct Barrel 38-55. It shoots jacketed .375" bullets thru .379" cast bullets into tiny little groups.

So much so that I sold my Marlin 375 to another Misfit. For the knowledgeable handloader, I'll just say they're different. But, the "New" 375 Win is all but history while the "Old" 38-55 is still kicking.

Dang WB, he called you out. LOL

He full well knows my love for these oldies.

Lots of folks don't know it, but Gary's 7mm and 30 GNR were designed around 375 Winchester brass. Then he went to 30-30 brass. The 30-30 is nothing more than a 38-55 necked down.

Actually, it was originally a Ballard Cartridge. Got the same treatment JD's 300 Whisper got with the 300 Blackout moniker.

LOL, yeah that was sort of Huey bait.

I was speaking of the antique guns, they had lots of variables simply due to the machining of the day and standards. Actually a bit of a lack there of.

Huey is also right as the old stand by is still a bit of a novel cambering.

I HAVE ALSO HAD GOOD RESULTS WITH

HORNADY .375" bullets in the Marlin .38-55. I am an equal opportunity employer and have both the .38-55 and .375 Winchester in both Marlin and Winchester leverguns. I picked up both the .375 and .356 Winchesters in Model 94AEs because they were just sitting on the shelf and nobody one. I gave them both a good home. Friend and brother Paco Kelly wrote in his book on LEVERGUNS that the .375 Winchester is good for anything.Period. Can't disagree with that!

I had a Ruger #3 in 375 Winchester...
