he said he called RCBS and was told they will no longer make 44-40 dies. I find this a bit hard to believe as they make every odd caliber of dies known to man. I am going to get with Fred Huntington and see. He owns Huntington Die Specialists, the company that sells RCBS parts and dies. . He is semi retired and only works a couple of days a week, but I will try to get in touch with him.

RCBS makes Standard and Cowboy 44-40 Dies...

I prefer the Lee 44-40 Dies anyways. But, RCBS has made more obscure dies than anyone ever.

My Lee Dies came with a .425" expander in the Powder Thru Die. Replaced it with a .427" and never had an issue.

Look forward to more information on this...

are just gonna throw it all in a hole. We like it as we love history and grew up watching Westerns. They have not made a worthwhile western since Lonesome Dove series and that has been a while back. They have no foundation.

There are going to be a lot of nice vacation homes, boats, gun collections, Harley's, for sale coming in the next decade. A buyer's market if the Euros don't snap it all up.

But, we can't worry about that. At least I don't...

Really enjoy all this stuff. Especially the old hyphenated cartridges.

It's just stuff in the end...

there are others to take their place. I would recommend Hornady dies as my first choice.

My first search for a used set would be Gunbroker or maybe even Ebay in a pinch. I had several sets and kept the strange one because it interested me. Lachmiller from the early 1960's? If I remember, I gave $10 for them since no one in their right mind ever loads .44-40, right? LOL I was delighted to find inside the cover to the box a former owner's pet load. "11 gr. 4759 / 240 gr. cast" You likely won't find any SR4759 but is is close to 5744 I'm told.

I have a "Cowboy" RCBS set in a gold colored box that is late issue for the .38-40 Win. I'd figure that more obscure than the .44 WCF, the round that won the west (?). In a pinch I think I could get my .429 GNR set to do some by neck sizing.
