the snubbies tend to jam if you don't have a death grip on them and if you need it quick you might not quite have the best grip on it and a jam could get you killed. The Commander length guns tend to function as good as the standard government models.

I'LL SECOND THAT. I'VE HAD VERY LITTLE

TROUBLE WITH SHORTER 1911s BUT WOULD I TRUST MY LIFE OR FAMILY'S LIFE ON THEM??

I carried a Colt Combat Commander for years.

local range. It made me look like I could shoot. Way more accurate than I could be. Ran 100 rounds flawlessly, I assume it is well broken in also.

I've always wanted a Detonics Combat Master, but I've also always heard any 1911 under 4 inch was not reliable. I've looked at the Kimber ultra carry's and really like the way the feel.

the Detonics were way ahead of their time

Kase and I both have had several. The ultra snubbies were prone to jam with a limp wrist type hold or even just a one handed hold.

The longer series of Detonics functioned fine. The shorty was used in the Miami Vice TV show as an ankle holster gun as a back up to Crockett's Bren Ten. Whatever 1911 was used on that show, Kase had to have one, so we went thru pretty much every one they made.

the main problem with the Detonics Combat Master was the

weight. It was a very heavy pistol. Kase liked the Combat Master

I was always partial to the Scoremaster.

yeah I like that old show to, always had cool guns and cars. I think there captain carried a Scoremaster or some tricked out 1911 in one episode, he usually had a Colt Trooper with about a 6 inch barrel. I've came across some combat masters out here at some shows but there in that 800-1,000 dollar range.

Commander size works very well for CCW.

as I have carried both. Now that I am older I prefer the 5 inch full size as I can see the sights better.

Ruger SR1911 in 10mm. I do not have an issue with the full sized 1911 but I do have a large frame. In the colder months I can carry it with one of Gary's Yaqui slide holsters as a long vest or jacket will cover it up. That is a big deal here in Southern New England.

When it is warmer I can carry it with an in the pants on my strong side with a T shirt or travel vest.
