Been having to actually work, not used to it.

My boss resigned and it's got things sideways at the moment. I have experimented with some different brass and things but I'll get back to it soon. I also want to get some more H332 powder which I think will do really well. I like the burn rate and it works well in others too like the big .348/.50AK based GNR rounds. It is also a favorite of mine in the 7mm GNR. But classic straight wall round powders should work well too. 4227, AA1680, 2400 etc. Trail Boss gave .41 Magnum power easily with almost no recoil.

Huey helped me with some thinner walled brass to help a bullet size thing I was ironing out. Starline .35-55 brass is only 0.0075" thick walls. Some of my .30-30 brass was 0.0100" so you can see the flexibility available. The .38-55 is a little longer but can be easily trimmed.

The .38-55 chambers vary wildly so this gives some wiggle room for the bullets that range from .375-.380 in that caliber! Kudos to Starline.

Looking forward to the full report. Good to know

38-55 brass can be used.Should make it easier to neck up I assume?

Rumor is I made him crazy and he quit

Oh you mean the .400 GNR. lol

That brass is some good stuff to look at. I'm still early experimenting with it.

As I mentioned before, if you think the barrel has a

problem, send it back and let me do some measuring. We shot it here before sending it out and had no problems, and we have sold probably 10 to 12 barrels in 400 GNR and had no problems that have been mentioned to me. we may have hit a hot spot in the metal when chambering it, but we should have had some problems when we shot it and didn't. So if you think it has a problem, send it back and I will build you another barrel.

I think the barrel is fine. My brass is thick.

The .30-30 case is about maxed out with the 10mm. Your chamber ciphering looks very reasonable. Almost straight but just a couple thousandths of taper. The chamber reamer shows 0.420 at the case base and a .30-30 case is only 0.418 measured there. Chamber tapering to 0.418 at the case mouth end. That allows for the mouth to expand out about straight wall for the .30-30 case upon firing and still be easily extracted.

I just plucked up a mix of old brass that did not seem to work well due to wall thickness at the case mouth. This is the fun part. I'll keep you posted on the next phase of play. I just have not gotten to it yet.

I was making my brass too long too. Needs to be

trimmed to about 1.95" or less. The specs. helped show me that. Even the .38-55 cases are close to 2.2" long. I was screwing round with odd brass and makshift dies. I'll get serious now. We do stuff that would try your patience, it's our fun.

when I designed the 400 GNR I set the specs for a .010

case mouth thickness. If Hornady stayed with those specs your loads should be fine.

I could see that--your boss i mean:)
