was talking about a friend who he said was an idiot because he was talking about the 38 Special Magnum. I told him there was such a thing. He said yes, it is the 357 Magnum. I told him no, it was a 38 Special magnum. He said something about my ancestry and hung up. Anyway I had to look it up to make sure I wasn't dreaming (old guys dream a lot, usually about young women in our past). So I looked it up and sure enough, back in the early 80s Norma (the company, not the blond) had a 38 Special Magnum out.

I have personally seen two of them. Likely they may still be in the vicinity, sold to collectors. Both were 8", a nickel and a blued gun. Literally chambered for .38 Special at the factory and so marked where ".357 Magnum" would have normally been so marked.

The two .400 Colt Magnum Pythons were supposed to have not left factory possession. I passed on a chance to buy a couple factory marked loaded rounds for $50 each!

the nickel 8" 38 Special Python is the rare one

An old friend who collected Colts used to come in my shop in Tennessee and he was always looking for nickel Diamondback 6" in 22 LR and the nickel 8" Pythons in 38 Special The really rare one was the 2 1/2" nickel Diamondback in 22 LR. We had a few of the 8" Pythons but they were a hard sell. People wanted the 6", not the 8". The Python Hunter with the 8" barrel and Leupold scope that came in a special case was a so-so seller. In the early to mid 80s scoped revolvers weren't really sought after. If a person wanted a scoped handgun, it was usually the Contender. The long barrel revolvers with a scope were considerably heavier than the Contender and were usually passed over for the TC.

Now that you brought this up do remember

The 38 mag from Norma. At first it generated some press over not being a +p but that did not last, as I remember.
