Looking for some guidance picking a caliber for my wife (low recoil) 10" T/c encore Mini Beast. Will be used for deer less than a 100 yards. Thanks

I went with the 240 Raptor for deer hunting here in

middle Tennessee. I have a 30 raptor barrel ordered now.

you didn't mention recoil. How much recoil can she handle? =

Is she recoil shy? If moderate recoil works for her I would go with the 356 GNR and if it does go with the 10" barrel with the muzzle brake on it. That takes most of the recoil out.

Also,I would prefer something a bit easier on the ears than the sharp report of a 357. How would the 356 GNR compare?(without a brake)

the 356 GNR has a lot more power than the 357 Mag and equals

a hot 41 Magnum round. A bit more recoil that she would probably like.

She doesn't shoot a lot, her pistol she carries is a 38,she does fine with + loads. Will be using it in a tree stand, want her to be comfortable with different shot opportunities, she usually uses her bow even in gun season

There are several great options...

On the practical side it begins with the .327 Federal (will do a lot more than you'd think if she's really recoil sensitive) and I really like the .300 GNR (full equal of the .30 Herrett) which is so much fun to make ammo. We got 2300 fps from a 125 gr. easily. The .357 Maximum has a lot of practicality since she can practice with her revolver ammo too! But at high end .357 Maximum levels it bucks a bit. I have a 10" and shoot a 200 gr. at 1650 fps, about .41 Magnum class recoil in my old G1 chassis.

Some of the others you really lose efficiency in those few inches dropped and the blast and recoil mount. My 14" (12"+2" braked) 7mm GNR is fantastic and zero recoil with the brake. A .256 Falcon would do too, with or w/o a brake, and bit longer barrel.

The Raptors are very efficient too but with 10" barrel and really small bullets you have a tipping point. I'd like the 6.5 Raptor with that very short barrel and probably 100 gr. bullets. If you are a .25 guy who would notice .257" vs. 264"? I have a .240 Raptor and really like it but that 85 gr. from a 10", not sure about ballistics. The smaller the bore and the higher the fps per inch of barrel performance drops. I would not be surprised around 300 fps drop. Those .243 pills are pretty tough skinned too. My .240 Banshee (much smaller case on the improved K-hornet) ran the 75 gr. at 2250 fps from a 13".

he is in upstate New York so the deer they have are

big bodied so the 327 Federal is out. The 321 GNR would work. A lot more power than the 327 has and 800 fps faster. Plus not a lot of recoil.321 GNR on the left, 327 Fed. on the right.

I am getting 2100fps with speer 110gr out of a 12" barrel

Don't rule out the 307 GNR. It pushes a 125 grn...

As fast as the 321 GNR does a 100-110 grn. I can't feel a recoil difference either. It's a hammer with the 125 grn BT or Sierra 125 grn HP.

YES! A much easier alternative to the .300 GNR

If you don't like as much tinkering as cutting off the .30-30 brass. Just run .357 cases FL in the sizer and it's formed!

not the 357. The 307 GNR is on the 357 Maximum case

I'll mention the 7GNR again since WB mention it.

I bought the 7GNR and a 257 Raptor in the same year. I thought my daughter would like the 257. However, she's shoots the 7mm gun with no issues since she was 13. I know that recoil is subjective, but we've found it to be an easy shooter and highly effective. At 16 now, she isn't hunting with me much but still shoots with me. She can hit 2 liter and gallon jugs at 100 to 150 yards with no issue. It's easy to load for, too. I have a 12" 7GNR and a 10". I have never shot the 10, as the 12 has never give me a reason to switch up.

I'll also say that I think the 7mm Raptor is likely a darned fine shooter based on my experience with the 7TCU. On the 204 case. 100-150 yard shots will be a piece of cake.

Any of the Raptors. I like the .25
