You know, I like the idea of an AR type bolt gun

or even a straight pull rig. I don't like having my brass thrown in the grass. Feeding issues should be a lesser concern too. But who are they fooling? No gas system or block, no buffer assy., a simple handle on the bolt. It could be made very cost effective.

Read a loooooooong article on the .277 Furry to FINALLY get to the part that wanted to know, it is simply a slightly improved .270-08. More to the story but it distills down to that fact. (It was actually made specifically for SIG's SAW entry, military spec.'d 6.8mm) The gun platform looks nice and with all the AR stuff in the market I would love an upper like that to tinker with. List on the SIG rifle is $1600-1800. But it has the upper and lower integrated and all sorts of fancy trigger stuff, it has a wider market than just sporting. I hope to see one day a rig with only a upper with bolt handle differing from the standard AR and more like $500-600 base price, I can see that.

well, if you like the 277 Fury you should be in twinkie land

as that is probably all we will hear about for the next year. It is already being touted as the "perfect elk cartridge", which made me want to puke. But all the wannabe gun writers for the web sites for gunbroker, gunsamerica and all the others are wetting their pants over this new cartridge. Sig is spending a lot of $$ to promote this as the best thing since the 6.5 Creedmore.

You know me, I'm a 7mm guy anyway.

But for something as big as a horse I prefer an edge, something .338 diameter or larger and north of 200 grs. I don't really rifle hunt but some of these guys are getting our there a little. I see the cartridge was a military round and they want to expand that some, fine. It seems to be about the same as a .270 Win., about.

It hasn't even gotten started yet. Maybe Boddington will try it on African Buffalo! lol. He likes to hunt them. I never have shot the .270 much, neither fish nor fowl to me. Sort of between a .25-06 and .30-06 to me. Lot's of my friends that can't handle the recoil of a .30-06 use it with great success. I know guys kill Elk with the .243 and .270 but not ME.

I’ve got an AR in 6.8 that I like very much.

I don’t see the need to develop another 27cal round but what do I know. I don’t use it often because after I had the upper built (before I learned to do it my-own-self), I got back into handgun hunting with a vengeance. I had planned to do some hunting with it but it moves lower on the list yearly. Now it’s a very expensive and superbly accurate range toy .

Yep 256 Falcon is a peach. I have a couple

One is a marlin 336. It’s my home protection long gun. My kind of assault rifle, and its sweet!

No thanks I'll keep my normal cartridges.

Like 308,.243,.270W, 30/06, 7mm mag. The newest one I have is a 7mm/08. Unless I go to Africa, which I don't foresee, I won't need another rifle with all of the Marlins I own.

Gary and a friend helped make Roman a 7mm-08

Encore barrel, tapered and braked 16" so it can be a carbine or handgun. He used it when he was younger. It's fantastic with zero recoil. Gary also made a friend of mine a special like barrel in .260 Remington. SO no matter if you are a 6.5 freak or 7mm man those two have you well covered with rather late rounds. Excellent performance from a short barrel.

As mentioned about the "military" SIG round as it overlaps into sporting use. Before all the BS starts, it's just a .270-08 with the shoulder a bit forward to keep you from doing something stupid. Maybe the taper a bit off too. It was spec'd for a belt fed rig for Pete's sake. Still, to SIG's credit, it will give .270 freaks something to chew on. Gary is right and we are a bit cynical, it comes with old age and wisdom. We must endure the certain coming barrage of hyperbole.

And I sit here contemplating a 7 GNR or 30 GNR for a Marlin 336 LOL.

Biggest benefit for the .30 GNR is the cheap .30-30 ammo

But if you like something different the 7mm is always a winner. Pointy bullets are the majority but they used to market flat point 120's.

Forgot the .256 Falcon! It's fantastic

I guess GNR can do a lever gun in that too. The .25-35 has always been a lesser known sweetheart. You cannot shoot .25-35 out of it without splitting brass but why would you. Even fired .30-30 can me made into brass by FL sizing and one fire form shot. It's the equivalent of the .257 Roberts! Lots of bullet options, and fast!

Has always been DRT for me on Deer. Surprisingly those little 100gr solid base bullets hold up really well.

Not an Ar bolt, but thought of you Lol

the 7.62x51 is belt fed paradise. Besides, I already have two of the best entry weapons going....an 8" barreled British Sterling and a 71 round drum-fed Finnish Suomi. 650rpm and 950rpm respectively. Who wanna face that down? Otherwise, I'll stick to my SOCOM16 in 7.62x51. This new round will go the same way as the rest of the new whiz-bangs. 7.62x51 been around a long time. Lets see where this 277 is in 5 years. For me the 556, 7.62x51 and 9mm in "business weapons".
