Connor Douglas, visiting us from Sierra Vista, AZ this week for Spring Break.

Took him to the local Venice, FL indoor range on a rainy day. He's 14, 130lbs. about 5'8". He had only shot a Glock 23/40S&W with his mom and step-dad. Started him off with the RIA 1911 22M. Had brought along a 10mm Ruger SR1911, which he handled nicely two-handed, then asked to shoot it one-handed. All went great. Shot in the 3" bull at 21ft.

Next day, brought the 510 Hunter, S&W 629PP and the 41GNR#2 Carbine we took to Africa in 2017. Shot 20 rds. with the carbine, 35 rds. of 315gr. 510s and then 60 rds. of 44m with the 629PP Classic. Still stayed in the 3" bull with all 3 firearms. Was getting shaky after all the recoil, but stepped right up to the line and had a great time. Very impressive, no fear. We did some dry firing and familiarization with all firearms before we got to the range both days. He operated all weapons as instructed, glasses and ear protection, loaded mags, used excellent safety habits.

My two other grandsons, both 13, wanted nothing to do with anything over a 22LR 10/22. Looks like I have another shooting buddy, too bad he lives over 1800 miles away.
