with the heavy for caliber bullets, go with the GP. If you plan on running normal 357 loads, go with the 686. The GP is beefier and stronger while the 686 is smoother and slicker. Like John Taffin has said many times, the S&W is the thoroughbred while the Ruger is the Clydesdale.
