was the wonderful metering and temperature stable 4227 powder gives performance equal to H110/W296 in the .356 GNR. Usually it is a little behind in fps, not so with the .356 GNR.
D.B. Wesson used cast 158 gr. SWC bullets I believe. And yes I read they were way hot! In the big frame M27 that was of little concern other than beating out (6) stuck cartridges.
My favorite bullets when I was toying with the .357 in High School was the 140 gr. Speer JHP and 146 gr. Half Jacket, they were tops. It was much later Federal came out with a 180 gr. JHP. I had a 8" Python and thought it was a cannon. lol It did shoot with many rifles to about 150 yds.
