Clearly, I agree with you. But, both sides are sorely lacking.
If you go back to the book of Numbers, this was going on in sorts.
Moses made a bronze snake on a staff to protect the ones bitten by snakes. One belief, mine included, is this was a focal point. "Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived."
Clearly, a focal point..
Christians look to the cross in the same way. Its our goal to stay focused on Christ. But, way to much attention is paid to the happenings around us. Constant posting of B.S. happening around us. That's our snakes. Anytime we focus on the problems around us, we loose sight.

. . . as long s there are dingbats willing to die for their beliefs. They see themselves as martyrs to a holy cause, soldiers in a lifelong battle against whatever they see as offensive to their world views. There is nothing we can do except hopefully anticipate some of their attacks and prevent them. It's not likely, but perhaps if we kill enough of them the rest will "see the light" and call it off. It's not about our faith . . . it's about theirs, and theirs is willing to die in the extermination of ours, and everything they see as associated with our civilization.
