Not everyone had them other than the occasional SP-1 Colt. I was busy playing with the Mini-14 and such, until a lot of surplus parts and receivers came on the market. I must have built two dozen back then. I think I built 3-4 "ultimate" AR's that I wanted just for myself. One special CAR 11"+5.5" HB A2 style that I sold for 3X what I had in it, thanks Bill C.!
I've never looked back on the AR's. Roman has one special one he built and we will probably keep one of the other two. I may see what the market will do but I don't have high hopes. It will take another Socialist Scare to spike prices now.
As I get older I am less fond of firearms that sling my brass in the bushes. Actually slimming down all long guns I can within reason. I figure a man needs 3-4 rifles (not counting .22's) and about the same shotguns, maybe even ML if that floats your boat. Then maybe 3-4 fun, "just cause you like 'em", models.... That's how it gets out of hand.
