My carry piece of late with the hot 9mm
The Winchester SG9W 115 gr. FP FMJ 1300 fps ammo that I spoke about. I’m less concerned with overpenetration these days, I want Horsepower! I “made” this little Kahr P9 Covert. I took a .40 S&W “Covert” model and swapped the top end from a P9 full size I also had. This gave me a hybrid that was never actually offered. The result of the other platform was essentially a P40, with longer grip to hang onto. Much appreciated with a 16 oz. platform putting out 500 fpe. It can get ouchy with hot 200 gr. ammo.

The resulting custom uses the .40 S&W mags to run 9mm. The grip frame was designed to accommodate the .40 mags anyway. The .40 mags in the P9 grip frame is a little snug, by fractions of a millimeter. But a point of note, they still work fine, just don’t drop out freely on their own. You must slide them out manually. The P9 Covert is the smallest gun I own, with more than .32 ACP power, which I can reliably hit a 25 yd. gong. Humorously I can peg the steel 8” plate easily with my .22, .25, .32 guns, but I have to get closer with my favorite .380! It’s perplexing to me.
The 9mm holds 6+1 rounds with flush mag., and it’s lots smaller than any snubby .38. It’s still part of my search for the best EDC. I’m certain the idea is horrifying to the traditionalist, a home constructed conglomeration. But such are the origins of custom. Someone in search of what they want, not in production.
