Can we rename the 6.5 Creedmore?

To get away from the stereotype and hype? It’s a shame, a great cartridge, a tweaked .260 Remington for some enhanced accuracy. Low recoil, good sectional density, a lot to like.

Like Remington did with the 7mm Express and .244 REM. Distance itself from the loonies. .264 American? .256 something? It seems to be easy to get to shoot very, very, well. It’s like riding a fat girl on a scooter. Fun, but you don’t want your friends to see you!

270 Short?

I mean, is anything new not just the old in a repackaged form? Kudos to manufacturers that have eliminated a lot of the tolerance issues over the years and developed better chambers, bigger bullets (why does everything have to be heavy now?) but what is really gained over what is existing? I suppose if I were starting out today, I could get a 22 CM instead of a 22-250, and a 6.5 CM instead of a 270 and go kill stuff. But seriously, nothing "new" is any better than what is already available, not to forget its mostly the Indian and not the arrow anyway. Do the math on the cartridge diameters, I tell folks: .284 - .243 = .041 Angels dancing on the head of pins.

There are subtle differences…. Once past 25 cal.

I personally think I can see a difference in the power. Placement is still everything. Bullet design is a big factor too. I think .277 and .284 bullets typically are great performing and designed perfectly to the velocity range and task. A .224 bullet might be shot from a .22 hornet or .22-250, a huge range. Quarter bores too range from .25-20 or .25-35, .250 Sav. up to .257 Weatherby.

But 7mm or .270, it’s easy to make a bullet that works. Same goes for the old .358’s. I mean who actually has a .358 Norma anyway?!

Some shoulder angles or longer necks do really have a helpful influence that can be exploited. But not generally by the masses.

Roman’s buddies all have fancy rail rifles costing upward of $2500 before optics! Sure they shoot good, they had better! But that old $600 SA Remington .308 should not be left in the weeds. It works as good today as it ever did, maybe better.

Good point. ;-)

Here is an ode to the 6.5 mm Creedmore:
“Creedmoor Steel”

Verse 1
Out past the treeline, cold morning air,
Breath like smoke and a steady stare,
Dialed it in, wind’s whisper low,
Finger on the trigger, let it go.

Pre-Chorus
Flat and fast, it cuts the sky,
Miles away where the steel will cry—

Chorus
6.5 Creedmoor, sing it true,
Long-range thunder, cutting through,
From ridge to valley, calm and sure,
Nothing flies like Creedmoor.

Verse 2
Brass in the chamber, powder burns,
Every shot is a lesson learned,
Minimal kick but the reach is far,
Precision riding on a shooting star.

Pre-Chorus
Wind calls out but I hold the line,
Send it clean—perfect time—

Chorus
6.5 Creedmoor, sing it true,
Long-range thunder, cutting through,
From ridge to valley, calm and sure,
Nothing flies like Creedmoor.

Bridge
Numbers and angles, breath held tight,
Ballistic dreams in morning light,
A thousand yards feels close today,
When skill and steel align your way.

Final Chorus
6.5 Creedmoor, legend born,
Sharp as dusk and bright as dawn,
From hunter’s aim to marksman’s lore,
All hail the Creedmoor.

I already have been caling it a "new" name
