As a rule, I like to treestand hunt. I know some people dislike them but I have found them to be very effective in the northeast.

Here in Maine, you need written landowner permission to put up a stand and there are a lot of parcels of land open to hunting but run by a conservation group that does not allow treestand. Tree saddles are exempt.

So. I was thinking about getting a tree saddle for the fall of 2026 hunting season.

I know they can be tricky to use but I have been reading a lot about them. I am very tempted.

Just curious if anyone here has used them?

Also. Do you think that any form of elevated hunting is practical in the Western USA? Thank you

I always tried to use a hilltop. :-)

Seriously. Ease up a hill, quietly. Pick a spot where you can see a lot of ground. Sit and glass. When I spotted something I was hunting and if I wanted to try, I figured a way to stalk in on it and often I was successful.

That was my preferred way of scouting, except

I tried to find a thick brush that I could sit in front of so I was part of the brush.

How do you get your horse up the tree?

I had used tree saddles in the late 70's and 80's. There was

A company out of Idaho that advertised them in the Primitve Archer magazine. I think I paid 49.99. It was made with aircraft buckles and webbing. I used it for a few years until I heard a crack in the limb, nothing happened but I switched back to a climber. It was very handy and allowed me to hunt places I couldn't drag my TSS tree stand. I still have it.
The New versions are more comfortable butttt you still have to choose a strong enough limb.
