If all goes well and we actually have a winter
I hope to put on one of our combat shoots. It will have to be in cooler weather due to a shitload of rattlesnakes that are in the area we plan to have the shoot. Once we have our first cold spell with a hard frost the snakes take a bus down to Phoenix and hang out down there. If we actually had a cold spring as normal we could hold one anytime in the next 4 or 5 weeks. But with our temps in the lo 80s the snakes are out waiting for us.
On our combat shoots in Tennesse we had them in Copperheaad country but in all the shoots we had I never saw one snake. Actually Kase and I were squirrel hunting and the weather was cold, probably lo 30s. I was walking the path where we had the combat shoots and was looking up for a squirrel. Kase was walking behind me and I heard him whistering my name. I looked back and he said look at your feet. I had stepped right over a big Copperhead. It was too cold for them to be out much and he was just weaving back and forth too cold to strike. I told Kase to back up a bit. I put the barrel of my 22 rifle down to the snake's head and ruined his day.
We have had several of these shoots up here in the last couple of years and I would like to do another one. The ones I have up here are in 3 parts, one handgun, one shotgun and one with tactical rifle. Nothing special, just good old shoot 'em up. Our winter shoots are usually near the end of the year or in January. We uaually have 20 to 30 guys show up. Running 30 guys thru the 3 courses takes a while so we usually have it over 2 days. All day Saturday and half a day Sunday. I will let you know should a few of you crazies like to attend.
