To live things up, what GNR would you take?

If you happen to get a vaunted tag for elk or mule deer in the Red Desert area of Wyoming, what GNR pistol or revolver would you use?

Personally speaking, I would use my TC Encore in 3006 with a Leupold variable pistol scope mounted on it. Gary worked the trigger and action on it a while back. Shoots exceptionally well. [image]

Good Choice!

What load??? What velocity out of that barrel?

If using a Reeder I guess I would use the 378 GNR 20" carbine with 260 Accubonds and a case full of R15.

i hve a encore setup as a pistol

16"41gnr#2 that is very accurate load would be a 265 lngc hardcast bullet with 32g of 296 velocity is just over 2200 fps

I’d probably use the 7mm GNR G2 platform

But my full custom FA2008 in .378 GNR shoots flat over any reasonable range I have business shooting and it’s exceptionally accurate despite stiff recoil. Dropping to a 235 gr. helps more. But I set it up to shoot anything on the planet with the 260 gr. Nosler at 2300 fps. The 7mm makes little difference, 120-140 gr. running 2400-2600 fps.

Hard to go wrong. For a revolver, a good .357 caliber option just for back up. My custom Reeder will shoot .356 GNR, .38/.357, or 9mm with a couple extra cylinders thrown in the kit.

All the pics I had available…

Gary’s old globe trotting .378 GNR.

Anything within 250 yds. is in danger if I have a good rest.

Any of those 3 calibers would be perfect

for Mule Deer or elk, The 7 GNR would work if you do your job . A couple of the critters in those pictures are sort of iffy for elk but would work with the right bullet and right place.
Like Scotty said that handgun has traveled all over the world but mostly Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
