I have some AA#5 on hand that I have used in the past, is there any other powder I may be missing that I need to try? I know some powders have been discontinued. Thanks

My favorite is Unique. Hard to get right now.

I also use Green Dot, 231, Bullseye, 700X, Power Pistol.

What new name powder is supposed to be close to unique?

Back when I first started there was Bullseye, Red Dot, Green Dot, Blue Dot, 2400 and 296. 4227 I thought was a rifle powder for .30 Carbine etc. it looked like stick rifle powder, just short and smaller. Plus the “Dot” color powders actually had “color” flakes in them for identification. Life was simple. I’ve not tried many of these “new” ones Tite Grip or Cooter Clean whatever. Marketing…

I don't know. I haven't tried any.

HP38 is supposed to be a good powder for 38 Special etc. though I really don't know as I have never tried it.

I’ve shot HP38 in .32 ACP up to .45 ACP. Real clean and easy

Metering. That’s why it’s so good for small capacity rounds. Kind of reminds me of something between Bullseye and unique but much smaller, more dense granules. Remember Herco? I used it for moderate loads but it didn’t work as well for my cast loads, probably me though. A shotgunner gave me several pounds after he got out of the game.

I found I could get more rounds with Red Dot than the other

powder I had been using. I was practicing trying to do 200 rounds every day in practice and the Red Dot gave me the most rounds.

from the web: Alliant BE-86 — A modern Alliant option pushed as a substitute; grain-for-grain similar to Unique in many loads, meters much better, and versatile for straight-wall pistol cartridges like .45 Colt or .44 Special. Good for those sticking with Alliant.

Second choice is Unique, but overall I haven't found anything to beat AA5..
