I picked up just around 500 230gr FMJs in a trade. What is your favorite powder and load for just a good ‘ol hard-ball load in your Government model? Thanks.

I like 6.0 gr. Unique.

Back in my great great grandfather's day I shot in

combat competition and shot a 45 ACP long slide. I shot 200 rounds pretty much every day in practice. I found Red Dot gave me a few more rounds than any of the other 45 powders. I shot 5.5 grains of Red Dot. It was accurate and functioned that long slide better than some of the other powders.[image]

I have used 5.0 gr. of Green Dot

and it is accurate also. At one time or another I have used 700X, 231, Bullseye, Red Dot and Blue Dot also. My favorite is Unique with Green Dot a close second.

231 is good

AA5 is hands down the best powder that I have found for 45 ACP 230 grain loads. Meters extremely well, very consistent, and excellent velocity. Plus no danger of a double charge...
