Part of the "Bucket" List.

Some men dream of the Plains of Africa. Some dream of Alaska, The Great Land.

They envision a float hunt on the Yukon or stalking the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa for some African Native Game.

Others, like me, kind of lean towards the oddballs.

One of my bucket list game animals on the list is of all things, a wolf.

In the image below, I spotted a wolf as it was checking out this wintering elk herd south of Lander. It is very hard to see due to the iPhone image quality but there was a wolf. Unfortunately, I did not have an adequate firearm to see if I could take it out. This portion of Wyoming classifies wolves as varmints so no special tags or seasons.

So.

What firearm do you have or would obtain if you wanted to shoot a wolf? Myself? I would use my Encore 3006 pistol with the Leupold 2.5-8 variable scope on it. I suspect I'd use a handload with at least 150 grains in bullet weight and use my Fox Pro E Caller to lure the sucker in, I hope.

So again. What would you use? Thank you

In AK wolves are not popular at all. From what I hear.

George Faurber told us a game warden in AK got a grant to capture and collar/track 24 baby caribou and moose (quite the dangerous task!). A year later (22) of them had been killed by wolves. Many not even eaten. It did little for the wolf project support.
