On my free time, I'd take off to explore all of these unique places. This region called the Red Desert is found south of Jeffery City and north of Rock Springs. IT is quite expansive and you need to know what you are doing at times.
Needless to say I did have some heart racing moments when the road got a little mushy.
Used to be a GREAT place to hunt pronghorns

But with the numbers dropping, it isn't nearly as good as it was in the 1980s
Pronghorn are still on my list for handgun hunting...

those old photos of Herrett and Milek still haunt me. A nice flat shooting G2 would really be the ticket. I have the .240 Raptor, .256 Falcon (a favorite) and both 7mm and .30 GNR, all perfect for the task. Now if I can manage while I am still able. I'd love to take a trip with my wife. She's a keen shooter too. If I ever brought her to HHC y'all might take up with her, and run me clean off!
Busting loose with a G21 and 200 gr. at 1400 fps.

I didn't have a good late pic of her. Here with 500cc World MX Champ Brad Lackey.

I took him in 2013, shooting my custom XP-100 in .25-284.
He was LASER'ed by my hunting partner at 411 yards.
One shot, bang, flop.

That is why he is on the wall.
We started hunting pronghorns with handguns in 1987. 1986 was the first year handguns were legal for them in Colorado.
I told myself I wouldn't mount one unless he was over 15 inches. This guy makes it.
The only hard part was paying for the mount, as my alligator from 2012 was finished and I had to pay for him as well.
Hunting Antelope can be a great hunt

fighting and worn the prongs completely off.
The guide said we could probably see a bigger one but it was the last day of the hunt and this old guy had a lot of character so I pulled the trigger. Custom XP-100 in 7-08 Improved with a 10X Burris. A bit over 300 yards. Not bad for a Florida boy.

The coyote crossed the road ahead of us, and stopped to see who we were. S&W model 629 in 44 Magnum. 75 or 80 yards.
My gunsmith Mike Thompson. took his antelope a couple of days before me. A much bigger goat. Custom XP-100 with a 7x Burris. 250-300 yards.

Smallest pronghorn I've ever shot.
I had tried for two days with just an open sighted revolver (.41 Mag Ruger Hunter).
My mom called Sunday evening and told me that my dad was in the hospital. Monday AM, I grabbed my XP and said the first legal busk I can get crosshairs on dies.
He got LASER'ED at 385 before I shot him

will shot flat out to 350 or so. I have the hots to build a new custom XP-100 in one of my flat, fast shooting calibers. My old custom XP-100 in 224 Weatherby was a great varmint rig but someone talked me out of it.

I would like to build one from the ground up like my first one.
Not sure of the caliber but I am doing some thinking. Gotta get my health back first. My right eye is still on vacation.

This one was built 1989/90 time frame.
15" heavy barrel .25-284.
I has worn four different scopes over the years
first scope was a Burris 2-7x (highest power available at the time)
When I came home from England in '95, it got a Burris 3-9x (Burris introduced it whilst I was living in England).
Burris introduced the 3-12x a couple years later, so scope got swapped again.
Then Burris released their Ball-plex, so it got a 3-12x Ball plex.
My load (safe in this gun) launches the 100 gr Nosler Partition at just a tad shy of 3100 fps.
The Ball plex reticle is almost perfectly spot on at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500.
Ive killed a fair number of pronghorns with it, and a small pile of deer.
