Off topic but would like to know. How many of you take a statin? Just had my annual bloodwork, and for the last two years my cholesterol is right within 2-3 points of being considered "high." Example: if high is 200, my cholesterol is 203-4. Not exact numbers, but I think you get my point. My Dr. wants to put me on a low dose statin. I'm iffy on that, as I am not a pill guy. Might I trim that number by a little exercise and diet mods? Probably. But that's hard to do. What's the skinny on statins, if you guys have any experience. I would appreciate the feedback.
Dave, I do. Atorvastatin. So far just part of getting old.

Research it well, it’s your body, not the Dr.’s

Not to dissuade anyone from following a prescribed treatment. But Dr.’s kill a ton of people each year. Look it up. Those numbers really are not set in stone, at all. The Dr. act like they are. Surely it’s not because they get huge bonus’ from getting folks on a prescription regime, probably not. It’s a calculated average, probably an algorithmic calculation, to include my 150 lb. aging chassis up to the 600 lb. wonder eating 6000 calories a day.
There is more information available, both good and bad, than ever before in human history. You’d have to sort it yourself, it’s work. Or some prefer to dispel all that and just do what said Dr. thinks. It won’t kill him anyway. It’s YOU!
I was like 5 over the international standard. I told them (they were quite pushy too) I was not going to medicate a bad habit. I’ll eat (5) grapefruits a week and be done. Those “numbers” are parts per billion or trillion of a factor. Look that up too. Think about that. Write one trillion numerically on a napkin!
I admit I’m burnt. Since Covid I’ll never trust medical science flatly again. I survived cancer of late myself. Read all sorts of medical studies myself, the things Dr.’s study. You can too, if you want. At least I felt I did all I could. God loves me, and I’m still here.
I have spent the better part of 79 years

avoiding doctors totally.
At one point I was above 270 pounds .. had high blood pressure... high sugar ... other issues.
I changed the way I eat and dropped nearly 90 pounds. Now my blood pressure is around 118 / 73 .... no sugar issues ... oxygen 97% ... no cholesterol issues .... kidneys working fine ... had an electrical issue with my heart but that is working fine now ... not on any medications.
I do take natural supplements.
I am on the downhill run to 80 in a few months.
Some folks just can't do that.

I understand that too. Not making light of it.
The older I get the more questions I have about JFK, RKJ, the Moon landing, 911, and Hollywood too. I'm becoming a serious skeptic. But I feel it's learned, not influenced.
Definitely learned!!

Dr seems pushy for just a few points over the "metric." I am also burnt on medical advice post-covid. I'd much rather naturally treat than just pop a pill.
I did and do

Was put on them about 2000, took them for five or six years then started to have horrible joint and muscle aches. Long story short, I have a low dose statin now and take one about every four days. On the off days I take red rice yeast capsules. Cholesterol has been 30-40 points below high since.
Thanks, I like that approach

All indications are that it is caused by long term statin use. I've heard from others having the same negative effects from long term use. I'm stopping the statins for at least a few months to see what effects that has...
