I had to de-construct a box of .45 Colt

Years ago when you couldn’t get primers at all, guys were even trying to re-charge primers. I bought a couple cases from a guy. They were Wolf (I’d never heard of them then) and a case of PMC “ElDorado” heavy metal free large pistol. They were a blessing until I got to the large pistol heavy metal free. The small pistol same did fine.

I had numerous misfires. They all went BANG! With a loud report in empty cases. I tried all sorts of powders including Bullseye to no avail. I still can’t understand how they all reliably go off but don’t seem to ignite powder well. I was going to try some pyrodex or black powder but never got around to it. I also considered adding a drop of the acetone primer mix to boost power.

Mercifully they are embossed with a small capital “E” on each primer for identification. I had a few boxes loaded up. I unloaded one today with an inertia puller. Quite laborious but I reused the bullets and 4227 propellant.
