Chatted with my neighbor from across the woods and bog.

He heard me shooting in my mini-range next to my cabin. I have a fifty yard range and did some shooting for a final tune up.

Tomorrow is the Maine opening day of deer season. The first Saturday in November is for Maine residents or people who own land only.

We chatted and he told me that someone shot a calf moose on my property from the railroad bed. He heard some shots and they took off. Ed called fish and game and they are investigating it.

Poaching of a moose is a big deal in this state. I am also a tad angry at such horrid behavior.

Something tells me that they shot this thing for fun as it was left on the ground.

We had a nice quarry to shoot in (target), easy to get to. Had a gate from the highway to go through. One day I showed up and it was chained and locked. Found out a couple weeks later some assholes shot two cows and the water pump generator. Ruined it for many. This is southern AZ

I have several hundred acres of land that I am allowed use of because I respect it, and care for it. This is in an area where hunting leases offer big money to land owners. Many have offered money to hunt it and the owner turns them away. One of the first thing my father taught me was respect for others and our family name.

You are right about that.

Here in Maine you really do not have the lease situation. Land that is either available or not.

Many large landowers are more concerned with timber than hunters so they do not post their land or there are yellow placards with "Access by Permission".

My neightbor Ed is a hunting guide and he said he has never had to poach anything to survive. I like what he said. If you have to shoot sometihng to survive you need to use every part of it including all of the rib meat.
