Since I was already casting and knew I was getting short on bullets for the .41 Magnum I dug out my old NEI mold and ran off a couple hundred. It's 230 grains .. flat point. I size them to .410" and they work well. I usually load 15.5 gr. 2400 but am working a bit lighter load using 8.0 gr. of Unique.

What do you think is the *best* all around weight?

What do you think is the heaviest, practical weight?

Curious as to your thoughts and experiences. Appreciate you!

I am not a fan of heavy bullets in the .41 ...

Mainly because I am old ... and I don't like getting beat up. And because I have used the 210 gr. XTP at around 1450 fps for so many years and shot so much stuff with it that I just don't want to use anything else.

My hunting load is the 210 gr. XTP and 20 gr. of WC820 (Military Surplus H110)

I was at the HHC with Gary and the crew in 2014 or 2015 .. I forget which ... shot a hog and a cow elk with that load. It worked just fine.

I've taken Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Javelina with it over the years and it has always worked well.

The heaviest bullet I shoot is the 230 gr. NEI flat point and I don't run it hard.

I have not tried heavier bullets. These two bullets do everything I want to do with the gun.

260-275 grains is the heaviest practical bullet for the .41 Magnum.

I shoot a 265 gr with a heavy, but safe, load of H110.
Out of my 7 1/2" Ruger Hunter, it just breaks 1400 fps.
(Out of my 5 1/2" Bisley, it runs right at 1333.)

I took a Bison with the Hunter, and it shot right through her. I used both guns to shoot a bunch of pigs and sheep on a trip to Niihua, Hawaii. Nothing stopped those bullets.
