This mornings cleaning

287 rounds ready to load

Been shooting quite a few. Getting case cracks nearly full-length of the case body about every 150 rounds or so. Only been loading these cases since the 1980's. You'd think they would last longer. That wasn't all THAT long ago .....

I have some "Green box" Remington Peters .41 Mags.

That I cannot guess as to how many times I reloaded them. Ultimately they do work harden, who re-anneals straight walled cases?! Not me.

I did find with Gary's .300 GNR that after some (20) loadings near max. the .30-30 brass also got stiff and began giving me extraction issues. Switching to fresh brass restored the elasticity and they ejected just fine, using the same load that was sticky in the old brass. I also noted this on my (100) 1960's era .41 Magnum brass that had expended about two pounds of Lil'gun!

You won't find that info published anywhere. I had to figure it out the hard way. As a side note; the .405 Win. cases .338 and .378 GNR eventually gave case head separations. I was loading for two completely different guns (Doug and my own). The loads were "hunting loads" at the max. Out of necessity I always full length sized them completely so they could fit both chambers while we did our load testing. Somewhere between 5-10 very hot loadings and full length re-sizings I'd notice the bright ring on the cases just ahead of the case web. I have trimmed them at the mouth but never really "had to". No doubt full sizing they were stretching. This will eventually thin the brass at the web. For all TC single shots the less you size the brass the longer it will last. Loading for multiple platforms in the same house is something you may want to consider, the ramifications. As Gary has taught many times you need to test your hunting ammo before traveling on an expensive hunt. EVERY ROUND so you do not get an unpleasant surprise. I even have been known to pack extra .41 mag. and .44 mag. cylinders just in case my GNR rounds were lost or didn't fit. It made me feel prepared for anything. Being able to shoot .25-32 in a .256 Falcon (well once), 7x30 Waters in a 7 GNR, and .30-30 Win. in a .30 GNR is a comforting thing abroad.
