Most of the time I worked in the village of Mieze. I returned to the US in 2016 and things got pretty bad in Mozambique after that. (though there was always and undercurrent of unrest) Then at the end of 2024 a cyclone wiped out what little the people had.

Our goat herd was on the property owned by the mission organization I was with .. Iris Global. We had about 50 children there, a large church, a clinic, a well for the people of the town to get clean water.

All the buildings were destroyed.

The people gathered sticks and broken boards and pieces of tarp and made a sort of "tent" inside the ruins of the church so they would have a place to worship. A non-profit organization called The Sound Of Us recorded some of the songs and are using them to raise funds to rebuild the church.

You can watch a little of it on this short video.
