I remember reading something about Val Forgett the owner of Navy Arms, who contracted the Italians to manufacture versions of old Cap & Ball guns. I THOUGHT I read that he provided an original Remington Army model (the 1858 is a bit of a misnomer) and somehow the mold or dimensions got off making the replicas slightly different. No telling the threading and bore/throat dimensions. I think some of the old guns even had tapering bores!

Any of that ring a bell?

My photo I posted below made me think of it. It shows my old Navy Arms replica center front. It was a Christmas present when I was 13 or 14 yrs. old. I later had a gunsmith add some custom adjustable sights. They all tended to shoot a foot high at 20 yds. As long as you knew that, you could work with it. But the new sights were very welcome. I also see in the photo it is loaded, the pink grease in front of the balls. It has a safety notch between the cylinders to rest the hammer, that locks it, and is perfectly safe for six-loaded chambers.
