Leather cartridge carriers; the old green tarnish that makes the ammo unusable until it’s cleaned off. I figure some saddle soap on the leather is the best bet. Brass needs to be clean and dry?

.255 Banshee’s left for 5-7 yrs. probably. Cleaned up ok, no pits in brass. Scrapped off green first with pocket knife then polished with 5xO steel wool.

Years ago I used Brasso .

I also have had that problem. Do you figure the chemicals used on the leather cause the green oxidation?

Yeah, has to be a chemical reaction, same green stuff.

It's leaching out something to grow. I cannot see damage to any brass. I remember seeing it on nickel cases too but they take much longer to tarnish.

I'm going to experiment with saddle soap to treat the leather only. This should insulate the brass from the raw leather. I don't want anything on the brass to grab the chamber walls or make it slicker and set back.
