What is the appeal of 7 and 8 shot 357s?

Just wondering out loud about the 7 and 8 shot 357s. What's the appeal? Just more rounds on board? I would imagine it means the internals are different for a 7 or 8 shot revolver compared to the traditional 6-shot.

Yes & Yes

Plus you have to count more... :-D I've avoided them.

I suspect it may effect the DA trigger pull somewhat, due to different action geometry. Not sure on that, though.

Sometimes you need a 4lb. .357?!

I’m being a hypocrite. I own a fantastic 4” S&W 686+ 7-shot I’ll always keep and a huge 8-3/8” M27 as well.

Competitions. The extra rounds make it easier to get through

certain matches. A buddy of mine specifically had to find an 8 shot 357. Not having to reload during a stage saved him a huge amount of time.

17-shot Glock envy?

The 9x25 Dillon on the large G21 chassis. It holds 15+ and dooms to be able to equal a 6” .357 revolver performance. It might even beat it some, until you get to the heavier bullets.

We loaded the .357 wheelgun with some cast 200 gr. rifle bullets in .38 cases. At 1350-1400 fps man did it punch holes through medium size hogs! My 8-3/8” Contender in .357 Max. can boot it out at 1650+ fps.

No, just can't seem to get used to the idea of 8-shot
