.44 Magnum loads for a suppressor?

Good morning to you all.

One of the joys to not living in Massachusetts is that I can own and hunt with suppressors. I know some may question its efficiency, but they are fun. in plain English.

My plan is to run some subsonic loads through a Silencerco Hybrid 44 M which will be mounted on a 10" TC Contender barrel that Gary has threaded.

My only obstacle is that certain powders in the state of Maine are hard to find. It seems that the place is devoid of Hodgdon's CFE pistol or Universal.

So my plan is to look for other powders that will be able to propel a 270 grain Maker bullet at just under 1100 fps.

Not to sound too silly but has anyone here ever use a suppressed 44 or other large caliber for either target or hunting?

Just trying to glean some ideas.

PS: One neat thing about my place is that I can shoot out my front door.

I shoot a 270 gr. in .44 Special.

I took the LEE .310 gr. mold and cut the top to where the gas check shank was gone. That first driving band is now the flat base. Tank Hoover (the popular author) had me make him one. When he saw how easy it was, he got into trimming the inexpensive LEE molds. Wrote it up for publication a while back. It really whacks in .44 as it has a huge wide meplat.

I digress…. A .44 Special load for a 240 gr. cast bullet, loaded with a 270 in a .44 Mag case, fired in a string .44 Mag platform, is an easy place to start. Unique, 4227, Herco, are the ancient powders I’m most familiar with. No need to chronograph, you’ll hear when you get over the line, then back off a smidge.

I do appreciate any information.

I do have some deer on my place. One is a small buck and there is a much larger one that has been very secretive. Hopefully the first Saturday in November will find me taking one down.

I'd start about 8 gr. Unique, work up to maybe 10.
